Ancillary Task 1

This year the course requires us to include magazine articles for our films. We will have to use QuarkXPress to make our film review pages. so we practiced using Quark, so we practiced by making up some review pages and a cover page for EMPIRE magazine.

Magazine Review Page

We have to make a review page for our film so we need to know what review pages have to make them look like all the others. Here is a list of the conventions of review pages

  • Usually have a picture if it is a big film. If its a small film then they sometimes have just a small review.
  • Runarounds over the writing for significant quotes.

Magazine Research

I researched a variety of different film magazines but the main ones I looked at were from the popular magazine Empire.
There articles have a set way of setting out there reviews which we will use in our own article.
A few of the conventions that we will use are the use of,

  • The use of stars to say how good the film is and whether the readers should watch it.
  • A stand out quote to draw people in so they read more.
  • A main photo this is the main thing that people will see before they read the review.
  • A "LOOKCLOSER" section where the audience can get the basic information of the film.
